NOTES FROM MY SKETCHBOOK FEBRUARY EDITION
I finished January feeling really frustrated that I hadn’t had enough solid hours in the studio to get into the right headspace to really get my teeth into this new collection, understand it, let it breathe and listen to where it wanted to go.
So I’m very grateful that during the first two weeks of this month I got the solid paintings hours I was craving and opened up space for this collection to grow.
Unlike my previous collections this one seems to have been turned on its head. I normally start working on more complicated pieces then slowly work towards something more minimal. It looks like this time around I am working in the opposite way.
The collection started with a handful of minimal pieces and as I understood what I wanted to say with this collection I realised that I wanted to voice more feelings about the work that goes into getting to that more focused place.
I’m excited to say that I have finished the first few pieces of this collection and I’m feeling more than ready to get my teeth into the next few paintings I’ve been working on. ‘All Is Well’is the second finished painting of 2020 and I love her! Harmonious and calming this piece has such a wonderful energy about her, although the palette of three colours is bold, the colours speak to each other so well and assert attention, in a humble way.
‘All Is Well’ is now available for sale via my Saatchi art account, I will be creating a large body of work over the next four months, culminating in an exhibition in June, however I will be listing pieces as I finish them as I know that not all of this collection will be able to hang in the exhibition space.
With all these new pieces being created my home studio is getting pretty crowded and if you have been following along on my insta stories you will know that I’m slowly making my dream of having my own independent art studio a reality. If you want to read more about this project or follow along on this my art studio build check out my latest blog post and be sure to sign up to my newsletter to be kept up to date with all the news.
If you are local to me during the month of March I have the pleasure to be exhibiting selected pieces at Monaco Beaux Arts. I have selected certain pieces from my last two collections that will be on display until the end of March, so please do pop by if you would like to see my work in person.
Before I close I just wanted to tell my artist friends about a one of my favourite podcast episodes from this month. I’m sure you have heard of The Jealous Curator’s podcast, Art For Your Ear and this episode with Terrace Payne was a great listen and reminder of how we can best use the time we have to share our work.
I’m looking forward to checking back in with you all next month and for now we will wish you a great start to a new month, as always I love to hear from you so please do not hesitate to get in touch.
