ART STUDIO BUILD 01

ART STUDIO BUILD 01

I’ve had a dream of having my own dedicated art studio for a long time. It looks like now is the time to start making this dream a reality.

Until now I’ve been working in a space in the corner of our living room. I love painting there, the light pours through the French windows, but I’m fast outgrowing this cosy area and it is now the right time to create a new space to paint and store my finished pieces whilst they wait to be sent to their new homes.

So firstly let’s talk about where I plan to build the art studio. At the end of last year we bought our dream home and I’m so so grateful that I can now start to seriously turn my dream of my having my own indpendent art studio into a reality as I now have space to do it!

We have spent quite a bit of time at the house weighing up possible sites on which to build the studio on. We have to take into consideration local building laws (no building with 5 metres of the property’s limits), light, access and proximity to electricity and water mains and because our garden is terraced, staying clear of areas which are likely to stay very damp in the Winter months.

For now we have decided on this site, and I love the ideas that are forming. This spot is situated centrally within the property, not too far from the main house, but far enough so that I feel I will be able to find my quiet and get into the right headspace to create.

This area of the garden also benefits from many hours of uninterrupted sunlight, I’m so used to painting in natural light, I’m going to be hard pressed to find artificial light that has quiet the same effect.

So now I know where I would like to build, I have to start working out what and how I want to build! I have measured up the proposed site and I’m getting lots of inspiration over on Pinterest, you can follow my board here.

Below is one of my favourite pins so far, a writer’s shed designed by Matt Gibson Architecture and Design:

I will keep pinning for now, gathering as much inspiration as I can. Then the next step will be translating how my work station is set up now into a new and hopefully improved space.
