After a year of much exploration, at the end of last year I felt hugely overwhelmed by the fact I couldn’t seem to find my ‘style’ of work, a visual signature if you like. I spoke quite often on my Instagram feed about how I was feeling uneasy with not being able to feel ‘settled’.
I took time off social media and I spent weeks working in my sketchbook trying to work out what I wanted to do with my creativity in 2019.
After some time I realised what was truly important to me about my work was how I felt when I was creating it and how I hope to make the viewer feel when she views it.
I let those desired feelings, ease, calm, openness, rested, peace, connected, guide me and slowly my creative path started to become clearer through each page of my sketchbook.
Back in my studio rough sketches became cleaner ink drawings, which translated into digital drawings and then eventually when I started working on canvas, I worried how I would then work colours and textures… Again I let me feelings guide me and went with what felt ‘right’.
Over the last two months I have created a collection of seven original paintings (two have already gone to a local collector), that is minimal, yet I believe says a lot.
I have kept to a subtle, yet strong colour palette and have been working on smaller size canvases, which is also new for me! At times I felt like I wanted/needed to push the pieces further. I tried once or twice, but it didn’t feel quite right, so I paired back again each time.
I already have ideas of where I would like my next collection of paintings to come from and where I would like them to go, and as always will be sharing my progress with you.
I hope that you will enjoy this latest collection and perhaps find a particular piece that resonates with you, please do let m know if there is.
Until next time please remember just how 'Strong and Capable' you truly are!
Much Love,
Johanna x
