How To Choose The Right Art For Your Home

The art you choose for your home should be personal, never chosen for your outer world.

When you buy art for your home, you don’t just buy a painting, sculpture, print or collage.

You’re buying a piece of the artist's story.

You buy their confidence, their energy, their strength, their struggles, and their dreams.

Every piece of art I create tells a part of my own story, every texture, colour, layer and brush stroke. Being an artist is not what I do, it is WHO I am. But it has taken 20 years of inner work to rebuild my confidence and call myself a ‘working artist’.

Whatever art you choose to bring into your home, it should stir you in some way, it should represent who you are becoming.

Of course, art creates a visual attraction in any home, however, art has the power to be so much more than that when the right piece of art is connected with the right collector.

You need art in your home to help make your space more you. Everything in your home should serve you in some way, and not merely be a decoration.

I know many people say art is the ultimate form of self-expression within a home, but art can serve the higher purpose of aiding in self-discovery. Art expresses facets of our personality to our outer world and encourages us to be drawn towards the person we are striving to be.

A piece of art should provide a reflection in which we can sit with our thoughts and feelings and be transported to a place where our mindset is shifted, a place of stillness where we are able to think more clearly and focus on what really matters to us.

A place to stop, reflect and be drawn to what we need more of in our lives to help us feel more like ourselves.

The right piece of art should be able to provide a place of peace where we can sit and at the same time confront us with what we don’t want to see about ourselves, the things we need to find the courage to overcome or change.

The Art you choose for your home should remind you of all that is possible. The possibility of your life, choices and you are choosing to become in this world.

When buying a piece of art for your home take time to connect with the pieces that visually stand out for you.

Research the artist.

Uncover more about their background and story, and don’t be afraid to ask questions. The goal for any artist who creates their work with intention is to have the right piece go to the right collector.
